About Rombauer Vineyards: 

When founders Koerner and Joan Rombauer moved their two children, two horses and five dogs to Napa Valley in 1972, they arrived armed with an appreciation for the intimate relationship between food and wine. Their appreciation stemmed from Koerner’s great aunt Irma Rombauer having authored internationally renowned cookbook the Joy of Cooking and his ancestors originating from the winegrowing region of Rheingau, Germany, where wine is considered an essential complement to a meal.

Appreciation bred passion, and Rombauer Vineyards was established in 1980. Forty years later, the winery remains owned by second- and third-generation members of the family. Under the direction of Director of Winemaking and Viticulture Richie Allen, Rombauer Vineyards combines traditional viticultural and winemaking practices with the best available technology to ensure the highest quality wine production. Responsibilities include: 

  • Operating pumps and filters to transfer, rack, filter and blend wines as directed
  • Operating crusher and presses, moving hoses and equipment, obtaining lab samples and handling the shipping and receiving of tanker trucks
  • Sanitizing all equipment and areas of cellar operation
  • Barrel work such as cleaning, gassing, emptying, filling and topping
  • Proper use and handling of winery additives and chemicals
  • Safely driving and operating forklifts and scissor lifts
  • Assisting in ensuring maintenance of wine quality
  • Following established safety regulations

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated ability with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of standard cellar equipment and operating procedures
  • Basic math and measurement skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Good attitude and a willingness to precisely follow instructions and learn new processes

This is a seasonal position requiring long hours. Working weekends and occasional work on holidays may be required, as well.

Job Summary: 

Assist in the Crush Season by providing support to the Winemaking/Cellar departments.

Essential Functions:

The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.  Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

  • Shoveling pomace from tanks
  • Stave removal and installation
  • Pulling hoses and setting up pumps
  • Cleaning and sanitizing tanks and process equipment
  • Assisting operators and racker/blenders in various processing operations
  • Assisting operators in running crush machinery
  • Barrel related activities: moving barrels, filling, emptying, topping, additions

Andis Wines

2021 Harvest Internship

Andis Wines is a state of the art winery located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Amador County. Our estate fruit is complimented with some of the premier vineyards in the sierra foothills. We are looking for highly determined interns to help us with the 2021 vintage. We are privileged to be working with the Atelier Melka consulting winemaking company, led by the world-renowned winemaker Philippe Melka. Our specialties include: Zinfandel, Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

Job Description
Interns will gain a broad harvest experience, involving all aspects of wine production. Pre-harvest operations will include sampling estate and grower vineyard blocks for maturity, assisting with chemical analysis, and cleaning and preparing the winery for harvest. Throughout harvest, interns will be learning and developing skills in the cellar and working closely with the winemaking team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to sorting and processing fruit, cleaning and sanitation of the winery and equipment, fermentation monitoring and management, lab analysis, pump operation, barrel work, racking, and bottling.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with an attention for detail even under stressful situations. They must be willing to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights, and weekends. The internship begins in late July or early August with a flexible ending date in November or December. The candidate would have ideally completed coursework in Viticulture or Enology and have at least one harvest cellar experience.
Candidates for the position must have a valid driver’s license, must be able to lift 50 lbs, the ability to climb ladders and stairs, and possess a motivated “can do” spirit and a good sense of humor.

Host/Hostess Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet patrons, confirm reservations, take reservations, and track occupancy.
  • Have experience with Tock, Cellarpass, or similar reservation program.
  • Answers phone calls and gives basic information on reservations, availability, tasting experiences, hours, and services.
  • Keep track of the waiting list and open tables.
  • Assign tables to guests & Escort guests to tables, depending on party size availability.
  • Answer patron questions regarding tasting bar experiences; the Di Arie winery, recommend or suggest special wines, or special discounts, as needed.
  • Observe and assists in preparing unoccupied tables for customers by wiping surface top, removing debris, and ensure seats are clean.
  • Assist with our team with the opening and closing duties.
