Perfect for wine enthusiasts and newbies alike, Behind the Cellar Door is a weekend filled with delectable food pairings, educational seminars, and hard-to-find wines all in an intimate Amador Wine Country setting.  Behind the Cellar Door is one of the most entertaining and educational wine events anywhere. 

Behind the Cellar Door guests receive a commemorative wine glass for all of your weekend tastings, as well as thoughtful food pairings, themed seminars and demonstrations guaranteed to enhance your knowledge and appreciation of remarkable Amador wines. New options and experiences available for 2018!


Behind the Cellar Door is March 2nd – 4th! We’re not letting a little weather stop us from a great weekend in Amador Wine Country! WE ARE PROCEEDING AS PLANNED!

Most events take place indoors, but if you plan to attend a seminar that takes place outdoors, check with the winery for any changes or special instructions.

Even though we are indoors, events typically take place in barrel rooms and cellars, so dress warm!

Advanced ticket sales have ended.  Day of tickets are available at all wineries with a wine glass indicator next to their offering (see Winery Offerings link above) and at the Amador Vintners Association office at 9310 Pacific Street in Plymouth.

Weekend Winery Events, Saturday March 3 and Sunday March 4, 11 AM – 4 PM

Your ticket is your key to open the cellar doors at more than 40 Amador wineries. Pick up your wine glass and wristband and your chosen winery location and then make your way around beautiful Amador Wine Country. At each participating winery location you will enjoy thoughtful food pairings and specially selected tasting flights along with barrel tastings, seminars and demonstrations from our member winemakers. 

$75 day of for admission both Saturday and Sunday (included in VIP Package).

$55 day of for single-day admission. 


VIP Ticket Package No Longer Available

The VIP ticket package includes admission to the Winemaker Reception, general admission to participating wineries for both Saturday and Sunday, special VIP-only offers from participating wineries and choice of one VIP Tasting Salon.

VIP Tasting Salons – New for 2018!

Intimate interactive experiences with some of Amador’s most notable winemakers. Held at the historic Shenandoah Valley Schoolhouse and available only to our VIP guests. Limited to approximately 50 guests per Salon.

Salons 1: Winemaker FavoritesLocated at Shenandoah School House at 21601 Shenandoah School Road, Plymouth. A panel of Amador County’s most distinguished winemakers will share examples of wines from their favorite Amador vintages. Hear why one winemaker’s 2011 Barbera excelled over another’s 2008 Zinfandel. Each panelist will discuss the particulars for each vintage (weather conditions, soil types and other factors) and why their choices became some of their favorite wines. You will get to taste these rare wines and maybe walk away with a new favorite yourself!

Salon 2: “I Love Blends” – Located at Shenandoah School House at 21601 Shenandoah School Road, Plymouth. Probably one of the most commonly heard statements in a winery tasting room is “I love blends”. While the blending of wine may feel like a new phenomenon, it is the standard in most of the world’s great wine regions where single varietal wines are more the exception than the rule. Creating a great blend requires a delicate balance of art, science and intuition. Join one of Amador Country’s master winemakers for a hands-on experience learning about and creating your own Zinfandel-based blends.

Designated Drivers

We encourage you to enjoy Behind the Cellar Door responsibly and to bring a designated driver. DD tickets are valid on both Saturday and Sunday, allowing designated drivers to enjoy the culinary and educational components of Behind the Cellar Door. NO ALCOHOL WILL BE SERVED TO DESIGNATED DRIVERS. $10 per driver with no ticketing fees. NOTE: Discount codes are not valid for Designated Driver tickets.
