Black Chasm Cavern National Natural Landmark

Just outside the quaint village of Volcano, Black Chasm Cavern is a spectacular, living cave decorated with a huge variety of natural formations, including profuse arrays of rare and distinctive, sparkling helictites. The cave has been developed using an ecologically friendly platform, stairs and walkway system that enhances rather than detracts from the underground experience and protects the fragile floor of the cave while affording them spectacular views.

Black Chasm was named a National Natural Landmark in 1976 by the National Park Service. A 50-minute guided walking tour descend a series of stairs and walkways among formation covered caverns walls, flowstones , stalactites, draperies and helictitess.
